The Teen Choice Awards may need to change their name.
The ceremony (which was hosted by Tyler Posey and Sarah Hyland this year) handed out hardware last night to such programs as Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries, while also recognizing Selena Gomez with its ultimate surfboard.
But Vine superstar Cameron Dallas caused quite the uproar when he wrote the following Tweet during the ceremony:
"It’s funny how they told me I won the Viner Award 6 days before the voting ended and made the runners up still tweet to vote for them."
Fellow Vine sensation Matthew Espinosa added:
“Basically they picked the people almost 6 days before voting was done and used all of us for promotion."
The fine print on Teen Choice Awards balloting does say that “Teenasaurus Rox reserves the right to choose the winner from the top four vote getters,” but this was news to many viewers.
They believed that they alone selected the winners and they made their frustrations heard on Twitter.
As the show was airing, the hashtag "#TeensDontHaveAChoiceAwards" trended across the nation, with one user summing up the feelings of every fandom via the following photo:
No word in response yet from Teen Choice Award producers.
