As of yesterday morning, Savannah Guthrie has a new, adorably sweet reason to wake up at 3 a.m. every day:
Her name is Vale and she's the newborn daughter born to Guthrie and husband Michael Feldman.
Guthrie, 42, gave birth on Thursday, invited her colleagues (such as Matt Lauer) to come visit the hospital immediately and called in to Today this morning to keep gushing over motherhood.
"I feel like life just started. I just can't get over the joy she brings - it's beyond words," Guthrie told Lauer and Natalie Morales. "The moment she was born I cried - I look at her so proud and I can't stop thanking God."
Added Guthrie, who is taking maternity leave from the program for a few weeks:
"I'm a big ball of mush. I couldn't sleep because I was so excited so they actually had to give me a little sleeping medicine."
As for selecting Vale's name, Guthrie said it was sort of a last-minute decision.
"All afternoon we were thinking of names and Vale was always on our list," she said. "So we just went for it."
