Lifetime has given us our first look at Yaya DeCosta in the role of Whitney Houston.
The former America's Next Top Model contestant will portray this iconic artist in the upcoming biopic I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story, with Arlen Escarpeta on board as Bobby Brown.
And, based on the following network photo, it looks like producers made the right call, doesn't it? At least based on resemblance?
Houston, of course, died unexpectedly in February 2012 at the age of 48.
She was found dead in her hotel bathtub mere hours before she was scheduled to attend Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party.
The Lifetime film, directed by Angela Basset (who co-starred with Houston in Waiting to Exhale), will focus on Whitney’s rocky relationship with Brown, with whom she raised daughter Bobbi Kristina.
"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Basset said in a statement shortly after the project was announced.
The veteran actress adds that she ran the idea by Whitney's family, but they will not be involved in it.
"We reached out to them in the early days; of course we're not going to do the movie and not say anything to them," she said. "You can if you're using public domain, but that's not our desire," Bassett said. "We paid our respects and let the conversation be had, just to get their okay. They certainly could have been not involved and against it."
I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story will premiere some time in 2015.
