Brooks Wheelan: Fired (Already) from Saturday Night Live!

by at . Comments

Brooks Wheelan's time has already come on Saturday Night Live.

The comedian announced himself via Twitter late on Monday that he had been let go from NBC's iconic sketch show.

"Had a blast and loved every second of it," Wheelan wrote. "I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

Wheelan joined the SNL cast as one of six new members in September 2013.

But he suffered from a lack of screen time over his first few months, compared not just to veteran stars, but also to fellow newbies such as Beck Bennett, Mike O’Brien, and Kyle Mooney.

Lorne Michaels and company, meanwhile, were criticized for not hiring a single minority among these new cast members last year, an error he corrected in January when Sasheer Zamata came on board.

SNL is will kick off its 40th season in September, with the executive producer recently hinting at some staff shakeup.

Last week, however, the late-night institution was nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.
