Ben Seewald: Jessa Duggar's Boyfriend Bashes Catholics in Controversial Facebook Post

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Ben Seewald started dating Jessa Duggar in September of 2013, and he's become something of a controversial figure in the months since.

Jessa Duggar, Boyfriend

First, there was the now-infamous Jessa Duggar gun photo he posted on Facebook with a caption praising her assault-weapon-wielding "AWESOME girlfriend."

Now, Seewald finds himself the target for a barrage of online criticism, after posting a rambling Facebook status update in which he outlines his problems with the Catholic faith.

"I have nothing against individuals who are Catholic," Ben's rant begins. "I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men."

Seewald went on to list several other ways in which he disagrees with the teachings of Catholicism.

He concluded his tirade by stating, "Where my Catholic friends adhere to the word of God, I adhere. Where they depart from scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors."

Seewald has since deleted the status update after receiving hundreds of comments from irate Catholics.

I am Catholic and I do not watch the Duggars. I think it is very cult like and sick to treat ADULTs like kids and this is what Jim Bob and Michelle do. They boast how their kids are pure when they marry. But anyone including an atheist can wait for marriage, if they would be controlled, chaperoned on dates and married off young at 19 or 20. I wonder how many Duggar children would actually practice Chastity if they gone on one on one dates without anyone else in the room, moved away from home, held actual degrees and jobs prior to marriage and married in their late twenties to early thirties, if they say they would be pure then they would have a right to boast. I think it is gross to go from side hugs, chaperoned dates to full on intercourse over the course of a few months. I mean Jill met her husband in November 2013, they were already married by Spring 2014 and she’s already 19 weeks pregnant now. Jessa started courting in Spring 2014 and she’s married now, how sick is that. In Catholicism, you have to take a course to prepare for marriage, takes 6-12 months at least to plan a Catholic wedding, not to mention the time the couple dated and was engaged. I think Catholics clearly take MARRIAGE AND MATURITY more seriously then the QUIVERFULL DUGGARS. Jesus died on the cross for our sins because we are not perfect and just because one isn’t a virgin when they marry doesn’t make them EVIL. I think it is better to be married at the right time, then rushed into marriage and dating simply for the reason of being a virgin bride or groom on your wedding night. Your supposed to marry your soulmate not who your parents think you should marry. The Duggars are a Cult, a Christian version of Islam- in Islam women must wear the Hijab and submit first to their fathers and then their husbands in Duggarvillage all women must wear skirts and be submissive to their husbands, and to their fathers. I THINK IT IS TIME CATHOLICS AND OTHER CHRISTIANS STOP WATCHING THIS CULT LIKE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Catholic who ignores the 9th Commandment. *THOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THEIR NEIGHBOR. Also the *Duggars* do not belong to the QUIVERFULL MOVEMENT. I believe I will take their word over yours when they say they do not belong to that movement. You may want to go to *Confession* and tell your Priest of the many lies and sins you posted here. Nothing you posted about the Duggars is true. p.s, Thank you for reminding me why I left the Catholic Church. There are far too many like you who are weekend Catholics. You attend Mass. Pray the Lord Prayer but have no idea the meaning of the prayer. One thing is for sure. The Duggars are a good hard working family who love and care for one another and give so much to those in need. They minister to others. You as a Catholic spew lies and hate. Sadly you don't even realize what a *Bigoted Hypocrite* you are. God Bless The Duggars and may GOD help you to see that errors of your way.

Why are you attacking Ben for posting the truth? The Catholic Church does teach that you can merit GODS favor by your works. That is a false teaching and the complete opposite of what the Bible says. Ben didn't say anything hateful nor did he attack anyone. But you on the other hand did. FACT: For it is by GRACE you have been saved, through FAITH and this is NOT
from yourselves. it is the GIFT of GOD. Not by WORKS, so that no one
can boast, So I suppose you think your WORD is to be acknowledged over the WORD of GOD. Catholics really do not know the Bible but for the most part they are taught the Catholic Doctrine. I am happy to have left the Church and now belong to a Church that follows the Holy Bible.

Such Vile language. I hardly think you have the right to attack Ben for posting his opinion when you posted far worse. First off. As a former *Catholic* it is true that the Church does teach that that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men." The Holy Bible says: For it is by GRACE you have been saved, through FAITH and this is NOT from yourselves. it is the GIFT of GOD. Not by WORKS, so that no one can boast, Learn More @ GTY.ORG.
