Well, that was unexpected.
On The Vampire Diaries Season 5 finale, the Mystic Falls Grill was blown to bits. Where will everyone drink bourbon now?!?
Oh, also... Damon Salvatore died.
That's really all that can be discussed from this episode. There was a convoluted plan to do away with The Travelers and bring people back from The Other Side, via a spell by Liv.
And it actually worked... Alaric has returned! Matt Davis really will be a regular again on The Vampire Diaries Season 6!
But Damon didn't make it back from The Other Side (after initially sacrificing himself in order to kill The Travelers) in time. He arrived at Bonnie The Anchor just as Luke was breaking Liv's spell in order to save her life.
The hour ended with Damon and Bonnie holding hands as The Other Side officially imploded.
So there are two possibilities:
- Damon is dead. This would be absolutely stunning. Yes, major deaths have abounded across the small screen this season (Will on The Good Wife, Moira on Arrow, Joffrey on Game of Thrones), but Damon is The Vampire Diaries. Ian Somerhalder is as passionate about this show as any actor on television and it seems legitimately impossible to believe producers would think it would help TVD's floundering ratings to kill his character off. HOWEVER, the series does need a major shake-up. Could this really be it?
- Damon is not dead. Grams told Bonnie she had done something to ensure she'd find peace, remember? And, for all the reasons stated above, come on... no way TVD kills off its best character. But wouldn't this be infuriating? Hasn't TVD teased death enough times already? To do again, in such dramatic fashion, would anger fans even more than actually axing Damon for real.
Which will it be? Fans will be buzzing and debating all summer long, which is clearly the intention here.
Which do you HOPE it will be? Do you hope Damon Salvatore is dead?
