Ariana Grande: "Problem" Set to Break Sales Records?

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Sure, Rihanna laughed at Ariana Grande during her recent iHeartRadio Awards performance, but it looks like it'll be the Nickelodeon actress-turned-up-and-coming pop star who will enjoy the last laugh.

Official numbers won't be reported until Wednesday, but according to early estimates, Ariana's debut single "Problem" is absolutely killing it on the charts.

In its first week on iTunes, the song is estimated to have sold upwards of 425,000 digital copies, immediately placing it among the top ten debuts ever and in the top five for debuts by a female artist.

Not bad. And industry experts are still allowing for the fact that official sales figures will be higher than expected, meaning we may well have a new Queen of Pop on our hands.

Ariana is currently in very good company as the three women currently ahead of her in the all-time first-week sales race are none other than Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.

Currently, Ariana is in the studio with Justin Bieber, recording a duet that will no doubt also enjoy blockbuster sales.

Not bad for a 20-year-old who was best known for tween sitcoms a few months ago.
