Angelna Jolie's role in the forthcoming Disney film Maleficent is one of the most highly-anticipated of the actress' career.
Jolie spoke with Movie Fanatic recently and discussed the painstaking preparation she underwent for the title part, as well as the difficult decision to have her 5-year-old daughter Vivienne act in the film.
"I practiced a lot with my children with my voice," says Jolie. "When I got them laughing, I figured I was on to something. Well, they laughed, they cried."
"I think that was part of the thing with this role is you realize there's no halfway," the actress adds. "If you're gonna do it, you're gonna have to just fully get into it and enjoy it."
As for the decision to have little Vivienne play a younger version of Elle Fanning in the film, Angelina says she still has mixed feelings about the prospect of her daughter becoming an actress:
“Well, Brad and I never wanted our kids to be actors," says Jolie.
"But, we also want them to be around film and be a part of mommy and daddy’s life and for it not to be kept from them either -- just to have a good healthy relationship with it."
The proud mother of six admitted that Vivienne was sometimes hesitant about certain requirements of her role.
On the first day of filming, Vivie - as she's known to the family - was asked to catch a butterfly and simply "didn't want to do it," Angelina says.
Fortunately, after some "egging on" by her siblings, Vivienne performed the task with gusto and went on to deliver a performance that Jolie describes as so good that it left her "shocked."
Asked if she'd like to see her other children get involved with acting, Jolie stated, "I want them to do it for fun only. And if, when they get older they decide to be actors, I would just ask that they not [make it] the center of their lives.”
These days, Angelina is very open about her views on motherhood and comments she made recently have been interpreted as Jolie's response to Gwyneth Paltrow and the controversial "working mom" remarks made by the latter actress.
