Jennette McCurdy's alleged beef with Nickelodeon is very real, but it has nothing to do with her racy photo scandal, according to sources close to both sides.
Turns out it's the cash money, and how the actress makes less than her Sam & Cat co-star Ariana Grande, that has left the show's future in limbo.
McCurdy was a no-show at the 2014 Kids' Choice Awards over the weekend, taking to Twitter to essentially publicize her feud with Nickelodeon.
"I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me," she wrote cryptically.
She went on, "I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing."
Sources say the cause of unrest is rooted in her paycheck, not Jennette McCurdy photo scandal backlash from the network, as some speculated.
Basically, she PISSED that Ariana Grande makes WAY more money than she does and she's been trying to renegotiate her deal for Sam & Cat Season 2.
So far, she has come up short. Now she's raising hell over it.
For al parties involved in this dispute, the stakes are high.
The show is one of the most popular on the network, but production has been halted and so far Season 2 has yet to be ordered by Nickelodeon.
As for incendiary reports of a McCurdy-Grande feud?
TMZ says that contrary to previous reports, she doesn't have a problem with Grande personally, just Nickelodeon's preferential treatment of her.
For their part, a rep for the network did not comment on that criticism, but says, "We have nothing but the utmost respect for Jennette and her talent."
