16 and Pregnant is back, baby (see what we did there) and MTV's Teen Mom precursor didn't disappoint in its fifth season premiere Monday night.
Fans were introduced to 16-year-old Madison Godsey on 16 and Pregnant Season 5 Episode 1. Maddy got pregnant after a having a one night stand.
The father? Her rebound guy, Cody.
Drama unfolded as the two teenagers try to navigate a changing, parenting world while getting to know one another at the same time. This is serious.
Having just finished her sophomore year in high school (!) this is going to be quite something for Maddy Godsey to go through. So many complications.
Maddy’s mother, Jen, gave birth to a baby only three months earlier (!) and is running a household of seven people. She gives Maddy tough love.
Baby daddy Cody and his parents, Penny and Chad, are there to save the day as far as living arrangements and open their home to the young couple.
Both families decide it is okay for the two to live with Cody and his parents so Maddy can go to school and work, while Penny will babysit little Aubrey.
It's a really mature, grounded and collaborative effort and the start between the teens and their families, but that doesn't mean it'll last, or be easy.
First of all, she brings her own bed when she moves. Awkward for Cody, who has feelings for her and would just as soon they share one and be "together."
Maddy, however, is not sure if she has romantic feelings toward Cody despite carrying his baby inside her. Equally emotional is her return to school.
People stare as she walks the halls and she can barely fit in the chairs during class. It's jarring to watch. Luckily, she has a nice core group of friends.
Maddy welcomed baby girl Aubrey in October 2013. Cody was by her side for the entire birth to welcome the little one, who also has loving grandparents.
The parents' first fight comes shortly thereafter, however, as Maddy is unwavering in her decision to give the baby her last name and not the father's.
Cody is not happy with this, and goes off the grid in an astonishing fit of immaturity; Aubrey turns three weeks old without another visit from her father.
The Teen Mom gets super nervous (ya think?!) about moving in with her Penny and Chad because she has not been communicating with Cody.
Because of the lack of understanding, Maddy says she will go live with her dad in Indiana instead of living in a house in which she would be uncomfortable.
Maddy breaks the news to Cody via text (!) and during his second visit in two months, Cody travels to Indiana and confronts Maddy about matters.
"I didn’t want to be miserable there,” she states, while acknowledging that she let Penny and Chad down and cost them money as a result of the move.
In Maddy's episode-ending monologue, she says she realizes that she is "on my own" (cue Farrah Abraham singing!) and that includes her friends.
She feels isolated and alone, lost and confused. She regrets having unprotected sex, and realizes just how life changing a lapse in judgment can be.
So, what did you think of the 16 & Pregnant season premiere? What do you think about new mommy Maddy Godsey and her trials and tribulations?
