The officials behind the South by Southwest music festival have released a statement regarding last night's fatal car crash in Austin.
As previously reported, a driver (believed to be drunk) swerved to avoid a DUI check point and barreled through a temporary barricade around 12:30 a.m., killing two attendees in the process and injuring 23 others.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the tragic accident that took place last night here in Austin,” the SXSW statement reads. “We appreciate and commend the first responders, as well as the city agencies who so quickly sprung into action."
The statement then addresses logistical issues for those at the festival or planning to attend:
"We will be making schedule and venue changes for programming in the surrounding area of last night’s events. All other programming will continue as previously scheduled. Please watch this website and twitter.com/sxsw for updates throughout the day."
Those killed and injured (five critically, all of whom were taken to the hospital) were in line for a Tyler, the Creator concert.
