Millie Brown is responding to Demi Lovato’s criticism of her performance "art" with Lady Gaga at SXSW, which Demi said was tantamount to glorifying eating disorders.
Not even close, Brown insists.
Rather than glamorizing a negative condition as the recovering bulimic Lovato alleged, Brown says she didn’t mean to offend anyone or to promote anything.
So what were they doing up there?
Attempting to challenge the concept of beauty … obviously. How vomiting on Lady Gaga’s chest during a live performance does that, we can’t really say.
We’ll leave it to Brown herself:
"There’s a clear difference between using my body to create something beautiful, to express myself and feel powerful, rather than using it to punish myself and conform to society’s standards."
Not a terrible point right there.
In other words, the imagery might not sit well with Demi Lovato for good reason, but they certainly weren’t trying to make bulimia look cool with this stunt.
Can’t a girl just force herself to throw up food-colored liquid onto a pop icon for the sake of art without people getting all bent out of shape? Yeesh!
