Lady Gaga is never one to shy away from controversy.

During an SXSW Festival performance in Austin last week, the singer got puked on by artist Mille Brown while singing "Swine."

It was both an unusual act and a scandalous one, with Demi Lovato calling Gaga out for glorying eating disorders.

“We weren’t completely surprised,” Gaga told Savannah Guthrie on Today.“[Millie] and I know that not everybody’s going to love that performance.

 

So why do it?

"We both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities," she said. "I support her and what she does. ARTPOP, my new album, is about bringing art and music together and the sprit of creative rebellion. For us, that performance was art in its purest form."

Lady Gaga said the stunt was not done just to ignite controversy and that it was done “in the spirit of entertaining the crowd and creating something that is really for the moment."

Does Gaga have any regrets? About any of the crazy stuff a career for of them?

"I feel like everything happens for a reason. I think you learn every time there’s a challenge in your life… so I would say no…

" But I’m a musician and an artist, so I’m always editing and changing things, but that’s the beauty of life, right? Your life is your own art piece. You can make it whatever you want."
