There are at least 11 reasons to love Jennifer Lawrence.
And one big reason right now for her fans to hate MTV.
The network announced its 2014 MTV Movie Awards nominees last week and not only was Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen excluded from the Best Hero category… all females were left out!
The list includes Henry Cavill as Clark Kent; Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man; Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins; Chris Hemsworth as Thor; and Channing Tatum as John Cale.
But Hunger Games aren’t taking the slight quietly: they have adorned an online petition with over 10,000 digital signatures to get Katniss a nod.
"There is not a single woman in the Hero’s (sic) category. Don’t let a strong woman like Katniss be overlooked!" the Care2 petition reads.
“Young women already have too few female heroes represented in film and television. We’re constantly shown by the entertainment industry that men are brave, powerful, or successful, while women are often given supporting roles and weak characters."
Fans are encouraged to join the movement by April 13, with the creator of the petition confident that it may actually work because "unlike the Oscars, the MTV Movie awards encourages public involvement, allowing the public to vote on winners."
We’d go on ourselves about how affection for the Girl on Fire – but we’ve got a petition to go sign!
