Rachel Frederickson, Biggest Loser Winner, Defends Weight Loss: I'm Healthy and Proud of it!

Despite criticism from The Biggest Loser viewers for losing too much weight, Rachel Frederickson says she did it in a healthy way and she's proud of it.

The 24-year-old was crowned The Biggest Loser winner Tuesday night after going from 260 pounds to 105 pounds, a stunning loss of 155 pounds.

That's 60 percent of her weight going in, and given her 5'5" height, Rachel Frederickson was criticized by many watching (and tweeting) for being anorexic.

She, however, is not paying attention to this.

Rachel insists that she makes "super healthy" choices, and eats no more than 1,600 calories a day that includes a combination of carbs, fat and protein.

"I worked out a ton," she said on a media conference call. "I followed the advice and supervision of the medical team at The Biggest Loser the entire journey."

"I'm extremely proud of the way I lost the weight," Rachel continued. "It's okay to have your own path and be different ... it's been pretty empowering."

Meanwhile, Biggest Loser trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper, who were noticeably stunned Tuesday, broke their silence on Rachel's weight loss.

Sort of. Jillian posted on Facebook: "So here it is. Bob and I want to take a moment to congratulate all of the BL contestants on their hard work."

However, she specifically added that she would not be weighing in on the topic:

"We're not comfortable commenting on Rachel's journey because we weren't her trainers and weren't given an opportunity to work with her at any point."

She concluded, almost like a disclaimer, that "Any questions about the contestants on The Biggest Loser should be directed to the show's producers."

Basically ... please don't drag me into this controversy in any way, shape or form.

What do you think, THGers? Is Rachel too skinny now? Vote in our poll:

She looks anorexic, like a skeleton. She looks best in middle pic (red dress)

Rachel, congrats. She won the money and lost the weight. We all know that is very easy to put it back on very quickly. This will be my last year watching this show. It has become the Dr. Jill show, all about feelings and then you bash the winner.

Honestly, from a health and fitness standpoint she is too thin. At 5'5" and 105lbs this would put her BMI at 17.5, which is in the underweight category. It all depends on how much she works out versus how much she eats. If she is only eating 1600 calories, and then burning over 1000 of those by working out, she could actually be categorized as anorexic. I wear an UP band daily to check my total calories burned, just through walking and other movement. I have found that on heavy cardio days I burn about 900 calories more than I take in. And I typically eat 1600-1800 calories a day. On heavy cardio days (i.e. the days I run...typically 3 a week), I burn a total of 2500 calories before I go to bed. If she is workout like crazy she could be burning away too much and not taking in enough to sustain herself. To be considered healthy weight she needs to be at least 111lbs, which is the very lowest based on her height. I would not doubt that she has become a workout addict. She may want to consider now adding another 200 calories to her diet, and working more on strength training to build some muscle...put a little bit more meat on her bones...

@ Stella

I totally agree. I'm in the process of trying to lose weight by eating right and exercising and I'm about her height, but I don't want to end up looking like her.
