Pussy Riot Members Booted: Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova Are Out

Rusian punkers Pussy Riot wrote an open letter on Thursday revealing that members Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova are no longer involved with their group.

Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova famously served 16 months of their 2 year prison sentence last year after storming a Russian church and performing an anti-Putin protest song

The pair made an appearance last week alongside Madonna at an Amnesty International benefit, which Pussy Riot's six members didn't agree with.

Pussy Riot explained of their shows:

"Our performances are always 'illegal,' staged only in unpredictable locations and public places not designed for traditional entertainment."

They feel that Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova went against the “ideals of our group ... feminism, separatist resistance, fight against authoritarianism and personality cult.”

"They have said in every interview that they have quit the group and no longer represent Pussy Riot. But all of their appearances are announced as appearances by Pussy Riot," said the letter.

But, um, no hard feelings?

"Yes, we lost two friends, two ideological fellow member[s], but the world has acquired two brave, interesting, controversial human rights defenders—fighters for the rights of the Russian prisoners," the letter added.

"Unfortunately, we cannot congratulate them with this in person, because they refuse to have any contact with us."
