Jimmy Fallon debuted as host of The Tonight Show last night, bringing the iconic program back to New York City and coming across as especially earned throughout the evening.
"I just want to do well," he told the audience at point. "If you guys let me stick around long enough, maybe I'll get the hang of it."
The comedian joked during his monologue that a friend bet him he'd never make it to The Tonight Show, prompting Robert DeNiro to come through the curtain and hand him $100.
This was the start of a LONG list of A-list guest stars that included Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Seth Rogan, Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Tracey Morgan and Mike Tyson.
Will Smith, meanwhile, was the first official guest, sitting down to discuss skydiving and skateboarding after a pre-taped segment titled :The Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing."
It featured the movie star and Fallon going through moves such as Running Man, The Leg Thing No One Can Do and The Carlton and reminding viewers that music will play a key role on this new version of the show.
Along those lines, U2 was terrific as the musical guest.
"I really don't know how I got here," Fallon said early on. "I remember asking my parents to stay up late to watch Johnny Carson. I can just think there's some kid asking their parents to stay up to watch me."
