Jay Leno may not be very funny.

But no one can accuse the comedian of not being heartfelt.

On his final episode of The Tonight Show yesterday – following a musical tribute led by Billy Crystal that included Jack Black, Kim Kardashian, Oprah and many other huge names – Leno sat at his desk and said goodbye.

He thanked his audience. He talked about his good fortune to have interviews such a wide range of guests. And then he focused on his staff.

“The first year of this show, I lost my mom; the second year I lost my dad," he said through tears. "Then my brother died and after that I was pretty much out of family. The folks here became my family."

It was emotional stuff and it ended with a quote by Johnny Carson. Watch the sign-off now:
