The force may soon be with Adam Driver.
In a surprising piece of casting news broken by Variety, the Girls star is nearing a deal to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII as that blockbuster's main villain.
Details on the role are vague at the moment, but character is said to be "in the vein" of Darth Vader.
Driver was a relative no-name prior to being cast opposite Lena Dunham as Hannah's boyfriend on Girls.
But he is currently shooting Warner Bros.’ "Midnight Special" and is attached to Martin Scorsese’s "Silence" (also starring Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson) and his stock is clearly on the rise.
If this report is accurate, Driver will be the first new cast member to be revealed for this wildly-anticipated follow-up.
It will be directed by J.J. Abrams and released in theaters on December 18, 2015.
Look for a deal with Driver, and other additions to the franchise, to be finalized over the coming weeks.
