We officially have the first surprise hit of the year on our hands.
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube teamed up this weekend for Ride Along, a comedic spin buddy cop film that soared to an easy first place finish with $41.2 million, setting a January box office record in the process.
The movie only cost $25 million to make and we can already hear rumored of a sequel percolating.
Lone Survivor, another Universal project, dropped 38 percent from its previous weekend haul, finishing in second place, while a few squirrels had themselves some fun in The Nut Job (number-three).
But the weekend was all about Cube and Hart and the movie the latter has referred to as "my baby."
It looks like this is one baby who won't be causing any problems for his parents. Impressively done, fellas!
Here's a rundown of the Top 5:
- Ride Along: $41.2 million
- Lone Survivor: $23.2 million
- The Nut Job: $20.55 million
- Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit: $17.2 million
- Frozen: $12 million
