There was no cheating. No allegations of cheating even. No arguments over kids or time apart or busy schedules or anything like that.
For Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie, who shocked fans when they announced their separation last week, there was no drama of any kind in their break-up.
So, what happened to the marriage of three-plus years?
"The spark was no longer there," a source simply tells Us Weekly, confirming the pair tried marriage counseling for 18 months. "They are better as friends."
Another insider says Duff was upset that Comrie "didn't put enough effort into the relationship," while yet another cites the hockey player's lack of ambition after an injury ended his career in 2012.
For Hollywood, where divorces are often centered around mistresses or love children, this sounds like one of the tamer conclusions in recent memory.
Which bodes well for Duff and Comrie as parents moving forward: they have an adorable 22-month old named Lucas.
"Mike and I are sitting here," Duff Tweeted on January 10. "We are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together."
