Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have signed two-year contracts to stay with ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy through the spring of 2016, according to reports.

The actors who have played Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek Shepherd since the show’s debut in 2005 will keep the actors on the show through Season 12.

ABC has yet to officially pick up the medical drama beyond Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, but it seemed more than likely before this and even more so now.

Fellow Grey’s original Sandra Oh won’t be joining them, however. The perennial Emmy contender announced in August that this spring is her swan song.

Six originals in all – Oh, Dempsey, Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. – came into the current season with expiring contracts.

The future for the others is unclear, but with Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, plus a bunch of newcomers on board, the show will go on … for awhile it appears.
