Caroline Berg Eriksen, Fitness Blogger, Under Fire For Post-Baby Underwear Selfie

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Norwegian soccer wife and fitness blogger Caroline Berg Eriksen is under fire for sharing a photo of her flat stomach four days after giving birth.

Yes, four days.

Needless to say, the image went viral on Instagram, and many who saw it were not pleased. In a matter of days, Eriksen was the new Maria Kang.

"This is not a selfie. It is an act of war," wrote one Australian blogger in response. "This whole situation has become ludicrous. There is no other word for it."

"The competition for women to give birth and then immediately remove any trace from their their bodies that they ever carried a child is OBSCENE."

Eriksen posted the photo of herself on Instagram, along with the caption, "I feel so empty… 4 days after birth," rapidly igniting the online backlash.

"Women are sick of this omnipresent pressure to get our bodies back," wrote another blogger in response to the picture, which she called a "toxic message."

"When you're juggling a newborn's needs, running on no sleep and trying to take care of yourself," the critic added, this is undue and unreasonable pressure.

Twitter users called Eriksen, the wife of soccer star Lars-Kristian Eriksen, and her abs "intimidating," "unhelpful," "obviously a freak," and "unfair to all women."

Is that taking it a little too far, though? Some would say so.

Australian Telegraph writer Sarrah Le Marquand offered a more balanced review of the situation, tweeting that yes, Eriksen is a "shameless exhibitionist."

However, "slamming the super-fit and genetically freakish likes of [Eriksen]" is also casting judgment, and moms "are faced with far too much of that already."

Prenatal nutritionist and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Melinda Johnson also warns against jumping to conclusions here.

"Obviously, what we're looking at is someone who is genetically gifted," she tells Yahoo Shine. "But we can't say she's unhealthy, we can't say [what] she is."

The picture alone is of one woman on the Internet, and "doesn't tell us anything at all about her health, the health of her pregnancy [or] even her happiness."

On Instagram itself, the controversial photo of the fit mom has been "liked" more than 21,000 times and counting, and comments have been overwhelmingly positive.

There, Berg Eriksen supporters note, "U rock girl! I have three kids and I'm a blimp," "Body envy is an ugly thing," "I applaud you," and "Beautiful!"

Love it or hate it, the photo of this mom and her washboard stomach is just the latest online blowup in the ongoing discussion of pregnancy and body image.

From Fit Mom and CrossFit Mom to the scrutinizing narrative about Kate Middleton and other celebrities' post-baby bodies, the debate remains heated.

Don't look for the tensions to subside anytime soon, either.

What do you think of Caroline Berg Eriksen's photo?

such a bunch of haters. if you actually followed her or her blog you would know she is one of the most fit and healthy people out there- look at the pic 1 week prior to this- she was 9 mos pregnant and looked like a normal person ate thanksgiving dinner bloated lol she was never big gained barely anything- so for her- there is no surprise she snapped right back - bc there was not much to loose- she carried very little. but everyone wants to one look at one pic and snap to judgement.. dumb she is lucky

Well,to the regular hater's,and to the apparent Many Ridiculous hater's that HollywoodGossip speaks of here,I guess it's much better that new mom's sit around, make every excuse in the world, and go "Oh! Oh!" And never even try(and I mean sincerely try--not the half-hearted attempts I see so much of),so that they can remain flabby and only get flabbier because it's so much easier to do. This way, they can now endanger their health as well,by being over-weight,and eating the wrong things, with no physical exercise to even slow it up. That's much better than working to get fit again, huh?
Boy,you get a few women, who are proud of their accomplishments,of working hard to get back into shape,(and they Should Be PROUD of it,since it is Hard,Hard,Work!)and all of the 'excuse-maker's want to unload on them, because 'they' don't have the self-discipline required to make their own change's...Real Nice.
Very classy---Not...
To the Maria Kang's,Caroline Eriksen's,Kate Middleton's and etcetera:
"I for one applaud your hard-work,your dedication, and all efforts to show the world what can be accomplished with said hard-work, dedication, and efforts!
As far as I am concerned, you should be commended, and congratulated, instead of attacked...
I also am a fit, body-building,martial artist, who is currently training for upcoming bouts in MMA. Within 2 years(2010-2011)I had to over-come 2(not just 1) vehicle accidents, where I had to be air-lifted to major surgery hospital's,just to save my life(the first 1 broke my neck in 3-places,along with a wide assortment of other damage)! Yet and still, even with all the new metal in me,torn ligaments, pin's screws and etc---I STILL managed to work my way back---so I know how hard it can be sometimes! Trust me! There has been many times it just seemed too-difficult(not to mention the excruciating pain!),and I definitely wanted to quit,but---then what? Just sit around, complain, and become 'big as all-outdoor's?? NO THANKS...
Now,if you'd rather give-up,not try,or whatever and you're fine with that---Okay---That's your prerogative. BUT---Stop attacking those who ARE willing to make the effort and go the distance! Just because YOU don't want to make the effort,is no reason to bash on those who DO!"
Hollywood---out.

This is getting out of hand.
I understand the backlash that Maria Kang received, with her accusatory "What's your excuse?"
However, this backlash is unwarranted.
Just because she looks like this and posts a picture, other women are pressured?
Yes, some people might expect you to look like her, but that's not her fault. She's allowed to post what she wants.
If you're on a diet, and I'm eating ice cream near you, I'm in the wrong? Seriously, people, get over yourselves.
