Considering all she's accomplished, it's easy to forget that Demi Lovato is only 21 years old.
And it's easy for the artist herself to forget this fact sometimes herself.
"I'm a Texas girl, so my instinct is to have babies early," Lovato says in the new issue of Latina, adding that she often has to remind herself:
"I have so much life ahead of me that I actually have to slow my roll. We'll see where my life is in five years, but I definitely see myself as a mom in 10."
Demi has been linked here and there to Wilmer Valderrama, although she refuses to discuss that relationship in particular.
But she will tell readers what she looks for in a member of the opposite sex.
"I look for someone who makes me laugh," the singer tells Latina. "Because 20, 30 years from now, sometimes the spark fades, but when you're with someone who's your best friend - that's what makes a relationship last."
Lovato recently turned 21 and didn't celebrate in the way Miley Cyrus might: she took a trip to Africa, sober.
"It's different for me because I'm in recovery," says The X Factor judge. "I also want to set an example for others. You don't have to booze it up - you can do something else."
Lovato is also guest-starring on Glee Season 5 and helping young, struggling teens receive treatment for mental illness via the Lovato Treatment Scholarship.
She sees the two as being linked, especially since she smooched Naya Rivera's Santana on her first episode of the Fox series.
"Yes, we kissed in the first episode, but I want people to pay less attention to the fact that I'm kissing a girl," Demi says.
"Focus on the fact that having a young, multicultural lesbian couple on prime time is a huge step in our generation. It's showing people that it's okay to be who you are. Don't be ashamed of it."
