Reigning NFL MVP Adrian Peterson only recently learned he was the father of a two-year-old boy in South Dakota, and met him for the first time Thursday.
This occurred while the child was on life support. He didn't recover. Adrian Peterson's son died Friday from injuries sustained in an alleged assault.
Several months ago, the boy's mother had a paternity test done with an ex-boyfriend she believed to be the father, in an effort to collect child support.
When the DNA test came back negative, so she contacted the Minnesota Vikings star, with whom she had a sexual encounter several years ago.
Adrian Peterson didn't question the possibility he was the dad, but asked how he could help the situation and planned a trip to S.D. to meet the boy.
The running back was supposed to fly out to see them later this month.
When Peterson heard the news about the attack on the 2-year-old, allegedly by the mother's boyfriend, he dropped everything and flew out to Sioux Falls.
There, Adrian met the boy for the first time while he was on life support.
Peterson been extremely involved in the last 48 hours, lobbying to have the late child's organs donated to other children in need of a transplant.
As for the suspect, Joey Patterson, Adrian has never met him.
