The Voice is back for a fifth season on NBC! The format remains the same, and after a one-season hiatus, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo are back.
Was that a good thing on night one? Did you prefer Usher and Shakira or are you happy the original duo is back with Blake Shelton and Adam Levine?
More importantly, did the blind auditions live up to their billing?
Unlike ABC’s Dancing With the Stars results show, there was no format change here. Just the tried and true magic that has made The Voice so great.
After the coaches came together to start the new season, they got down to business, bantering and competing for the talented singers who gave it their all.
Most notably …
Matthew Schuler got all four coaches to turn around in like the first 15 milliseconds of his rendition of “Cough Syrup” and earned a spot on Team Christina.
Is Matthew Schuler as good as advertised? Only time will tell, but he’s immediately put himself on the map and made Team Xtina a threat in Season 5.
Josh Logan, with “Too Close,” a song you knew would be covered the second this show aired, but which he did a great job on, will join him there.
Nic Hawk, who performed “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!),” made noise with his voice but also his brazen flirtation with Adam and fantastic stage presence.
He’ll be on Team Adam along with Donna Allen, who wowed him on “You Are So Beautiful,” and James Wolpert, who turned in a strong version of “Love Interruption.”
Shelbie Z was the first and only person to join Team Blake, winners of back to back to back The Voice titles, on the premiere. Nevertheless, she is “Here for the Party.”
Caroline Pennell is hoping “Anything Could Happen” on Team Cee Lo this season, while Kat Robichaud proclaimed “I’ve Got the Music in Me” and joined his squad as well.
Who were your favorite singers on the night? Who’s got the best team (very) early on? Did you disagree with any of the coaches’ or singers’ decisions?
