Joe Son was/is serving a life sentence in California's Wasco State Prison for torturing a woman when he allegedly murdered his 50-year-old cellmate.

The victim, Thomas Graham, was serving a 2-year sentence for failing to register as a sex offender (for committing lewd and lascivious acts on a minor).

A former MMA fighter, Son killed Graham with a combination of kicks and punches. The brutality of the slaying could factor into the death penalty decision.
