Dakota Johnson and E.L. James Bond, Discuss Ana Steele Character

Dakota Johnson is going straight to the source, spending time with Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James on Sunday afternoon in New York City.

The 23-year-old actress will be playing Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of James' erotic bestseller, and the two appeared to really hit it off.

Dakota Johnson and EL James

"The beautiful, talented, funny as feck, Dakota Johnson. Oh and that bloke @danabrunetti," E.L. Tweeted, referring to the film's producer Dana Brunetti.

Dakota was cast in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie along with hunk Charlie Hunnam, who will play tortured, S&M-loving billionaire Christian Grey.

James is thrilled with the casting. Fans? Not as much.

Reactions ranged from apathetic, curious, and even rage-filled, with some Fifty Shades readers even starting a petition for a new Christian and Ana.

That won't happen, but says a lot about how hard it is to cast the "perfect" person in the eyes of fans who picture a book's characters a certain way.

For his part, Hunnam talked about the chemistry with Dakota Johnson when he was considering the role, and how that inspired him to take on the role.

"As soon as we got in the room, I knew I definitely wanted to do it," he said. "There's a tangible chemistry between us. It felt exciting and fun and weird and compelling."

For Dakota, 23, it'll be a big change for the relatively unknown actress. Not only with the racy material, but for being cast in a major, major production.

What do you think? Is she a good for for the role?

Uh, besides that Dakota looks all wrong for this part even with the brown haired photos I've seen, she is way too tall for Ana Steele! She is 5'7 1/2" tall! Ana is just averaged height, she is supposed to be tiny as Christian is physically imposing and powerful next to her, and she can curl up in his lap effortlessly. That's part of his draw to protect her too. In heels too Dakota will be nearly challenging Charlie's height. How awkward and not the right portrayal at all. I don't even think they should be making this a movie to be honest! Why ruin the books? Film adaptations rarely ever do the books justice.

I absolutely agree! My main objections with Dakota have been that she doesn't have Ana's big eyes, and that she is too tall.

At least Charlie can transform into Christian Grey and resemble the character's looks. Dakota is ALL KINDS OF WRONG! Even as a brunette she doesn't look a damn thing like Ana and in books where they put a lot of emphasis on physical appearance you expect that the be part of their criteria when casting. I know these actors came cheap but surely unknowns were flocking to this film, who knows if they all had the chance to audition or not, but I bet they easily could've found a better actress to play Ana that had great chemistry with charlie, the talent, and actually resembled the character in the books. Seriously...
