We have an update on Randy Travis, following his hospitalization on Sunday for a heart ailment known as viral cardiomyopathy.
According to the country singer's sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, Travis underwent surgery yesterday.
"Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family," Traywick tells People. "Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps."
Travis was admitted to a Texas hospital over the weekend due to a condition that enlarges and weakens the heart muscle.
He has officially canceled his next scheduled concert (in Deadwood, South Dakota tomorrow night), while friends and loved ones continue to offer support on Twitter.
"Thoughts go out to @randytravis," wrote Lance Armstrong. "Heal up soon my man! One of country music's greatest voices ever."
UPDATE: The singer's rep now says Travis has NOT undergone surgery, explaining:
"Travis was admitted into a Texas hospital on Sunday and underwent placement of an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals. "
