Shailene Woodley was all set to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So set, in fact, that she already shot all of her scenes.
But it looks like she'll have to wait until the third film. Marc Webb announced that Woodley has been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
"I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship," said Webb about the decision.
Woodley is understandably upset, saying, "Of course I'm bummed, but I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason."
The plan now is for the character to be introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which recently received a 2016 release date.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters May 2, 2014, without Woodley.
