Seal Rants Against Australia, Apologizes

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Seal stood up for friend and colleague Joel Madden yesterday.

By positively going OFF on the country of Australia.

In the wake of Madden being kicked out of his hotel Down Under due to possession of marijuana, the artist's colleague on that nation's version of The Voice came to his staunch defense over Twitter last night.

Seal and Joel Madden

"All my Brother has done since he's been here is serve this country by attending numerous kids hospitals," Seal wrote, also praising Madden for his work with homeless shelters and disabled kids.

"Yet having a joint in the privacy of his hotel room is worthy of front page news???" the singer asked.

Seal then went on about Madden, Australia's strict pot guidelines and the country's media.

"Way to respect a guest in your country trash media, way to make us feel welcome. Keep it up..sure we'll be back next year. and yes, I say we because it's just a matter of time before you gun us all down...

"It's a shame. I for one will not stand by and watch you attempt to destroy my Brother, you gun one you gun us all... you ask him to meet n greet a cancer victim in your hotel then send police to his room?? Nice…very classy..keep it up Judas. I'm done here. can't wait to go home."

Seal later deleted almost all these Tweets, apologized to Australia and simply said he was sticking by a close friend.

"I want to say I have loved being in Australia, I've loved working on The Voice and with an incredibly talented group of Australian artists," he Tweeted/ "It's been almost 11 weeks away from my kids and me saying 'I can't wait to go home' was me missing being home with them."

Well, that's clearly not what he meant originally. But point taken.

I am a rabit Seal fan but my advice, "Seal, cool it". You have a fantastic gig going on right now. Please stop ranting! (this is the cause of you losing your family). Plus lets face it, you are going to need all the funds you can make for Child Support (while Mr. Kirsten, when married to the missus, not a matter of 'if but 'when', will enjoy all the comforts of a family. Please get back to good music. Love alway, A devoted fan

As an Australian I agree with Seal's criticisms, and feel he should stand by them. Australia does have a hypocritical attitude to pot - legal prohibition combined with media fascination/prurient interest, and we do have plenty of trash media.

It makes me think that Australia is actually worse than U.S. even though it looks nicer/safer.

Kind of embarrassing for Australia and really disappointing that hotel staff would rat on someone like that - regardless of whether it's a celebrity or not. To me that's an invasion of privacy. It's not like he had a drug lab in there. From an Australian in Australia, sorry Joel.
