Paula Deen: Fired By Food Network Following Lawsuit, Racial Slurs

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Paula Deen may have issued an apology for using racial slurs in both her Savannah, Ga., restaurants and also ever in her entire life, but that wasn't enough for Food Network.

Probably because the apology was terrible, but hey, she tried??

Earlier today it was announced that Food Network dropped the butter-loving Southern Belle known for sending love and "best dishes" to her viewers.

Deen's contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of this month.

Deen

Deen, who made her mark on the Food Network with her sugary, fat-saturated foods, has faced quite a rocky couple of years, to say the least.

First she announced that she had been diagnosed with and battled diabetes and received backlash from critics for not modifying her unhealthy recipes.

She went on to slim down with the South Beach diet before being slapped with a lawsuit regarding allegations of sexual harassment in her restaurants by G.M. Lisa Jackson.

While Deen denies the sexual harassment, she doesn't deny using racial slurs, and that, no doubt coupled with her skipped Today Show appearance this morning, landed her in hot water.

All of this has left her image and her career in the slop trough, and it was all too much for Food Network, with which she will no longer be associated.

It's going to take more than a pan of brownies to apologize for this one. She'll be serving up casseroles to everyone else while she eats Humble Pie.

It's a good thing she knows a thing or two about comfort food recipes, right?

Talk to THG: Would you fire Paula Deen?

White is a color and not a race. but Carcasian is a race and not a color and Black is a color and not a race. And
Amerians of Africa descent is a race but not a color. Americans of Africa descent
Can be ivory to ebony. So, it was not a problem to remark " I like to hit Anything white.

That? Has got to be the most ignorant, stupid thing I've read in a long time.

Food network is being ridiculous. To fire because of something she said she said in the past and for alleged incidents this woman is claims happened is outrageous. Sounds like a disgruntled ex employee out to ruin them and gain a ton of money from them. Paula deserves her job back. I'm disappointed that they chose to fire her.

I think Paula's firing is outrageous..one slip of the tongue and she's fired. I LOVE TO WATCH HER AND HER SON COOKING TOGETHER SOMETHING WARM A COZY ABOUT A MOTHER AND HER SON MAKING FOOD TOGETHER. THE N WORD IS SAID ALL OF THE TIME FROM RAPPERS AND COMEDIANS. IF YOU DON'T REINSTATE HER I'LL NEVER WATCH THE FOOD CHANNEL AGAIN.

I don't think Paula should have ever brought up something she said 20 to 30 years ago if it has nothing to do with how she conducts herself today.

All this negative media I'm sure as usual has blown the comment out of proportion . Don't know when or where this word was used.she was honest as many other people may have used this word in years gone by I don't feel Paula is a mean spirited racisist person. I still love Paula and will watch and buy her products . Still love her and pray for the best for her. Food network this is your loss . Not the interesting programming as before anyway. Paula was only 1 of 4 shows I watch now will tune elsewhere. Paula was treated wrong and hope ratings drop as far as I think they will.

Whats wrong with nigger, spic, redneck, gook, honkey or any words today?? we STILL HEAR THEM BUT, we are trying to erase names all races called each other in years past, but we are all becoming so politically stupid correct its pathetic that we are all attacking each other for our own freedom of speech its sad. Sorry but we have two kinds of people in this world, good ones andd bad ones, i myself used to call bad black people niggers or bad hispanic people spics in years past and so on, but today I dont use those words just good or bad person cause we are all a bunch of mixed breed 4th generation in this country now anyhow. If we all learn to love one another no matter what and pray this nasty stuff can go away....goodness this country is sad and our media even sadder

As Americans in America, we should be able to say any damn word we want to say.
I've heard George Lopez say twice that he likes playing golf because "any time I can hit something white with a club, I love it", why is that ok but this isn't?
Its a ridiculous double standard.
Say anything derogatory you want about white people, but you say something about any other race and there's outrage. Give me a break.

White people have a stigma against them for being PROFOUNDLY racist to everyone else. That would be why nobody cares when someone is racist towards them.

I am a fan of Paula Deen and that has not changed. I would say to a black person's face that I could care less that she used the N word in the past and could care less if she uses it in the future! If they have a problem with it, I would direct them to their black rappers for an explanation as to why it is OK!

Not all of us listen to hip hop, or use the word "nigga".

No- but your black ass will play the race card when ever you don't get your way- that's what all of you have in common.

@ BL

Yep. You are so right about that.

regarding that george lopez joke, that joke isnt even funny. george lopez is an idiot. his wife gave him one of her kidneys and then he dumped her ass. he is pathetic. but i agree with your point; why is it minorities can say whatever they want but if a white person says anything that in any way upsets a non-white, they are crucified??? insane. all us whites should move to Sweden and leave all the minorities here to ruin this country.

So real, I say that every day. Let's go. It has to be better than what this supposed free speech country has become. I think one of the reasons that it's ok to make jokes about us white people is that we aren't whiny babies who make a huge deal out of every little thing.
It's such a double standard.
They say anything they want but if we say it it's wrong.
What would happen if we had WET White Entertainment Television. What would happen if there was a magazine that said "the 50 most beautiful white women" like I've seen for black women. There would be protests and outrage. Stop whining.
It's very ironic that the ones who whine and complain the most, have more than us white people do.

Where is the uproar over those who use the F... word and who take the Lord's name in vain? That is what offends me. What is offensive about referring to a persons colour?

@ Beth

Lords name? Most of those on this rag don't have a Christian bone in their body. They boycott chick fil a because they are Christian. they can't stand people from the south because they attend on Sundays.

Avatar
@ Chasing ghosts

And that's ok. I'm an atheist and you are no better than I am. Non christians are every bit as good, moral, ethical, smart, loving, and much more open minded than any christian I've ever met.
Grow up, open that closed mind of yours and realize that not everybody believes in your god, and that's ok.

Avatar
@ Mama Dog

While I am not an atheist, I totally get your point - and I agree. I have neighbors who are devout Christians, and they are anything BUT Christian-like when it comes to people they don't like. They are the biggest hypocrites I have ever met.

Will say I find all the stories going into the weekend a bag of hoots--tagging the West child with the most stupid name they could find, Bueber once again showing why a lack of education looks like and Paula Deen trying but not succeeding in looking trite for being a bigot. Well done THS!
