The Voice Recap: Blake and Usher Said Knock You Out!

by at .  Updated at . Comments

The Knockout Round on The Voice is always brutal, as the remaining crop of vocal gladiators duel to the vocal death, with instant elimination on the line again.

Monday, Adam and Shakira pared their teams down to four each.

Tuesday, it was Usher and Blake's turn. Who lived to sing another day, and whose dreams were shattered when the coaches made their invariably touch decisions?

THG breaks down the night's performances for you below ...

Team Blake received major pushback from Adam Levine for choosing country singer and marching band member Holly Tucker over Luke Edgemon.

"Let me explain why you're an idiot," Adam told Blake after his friend sent Luke home. "He's got a whole unique thing. He's original, he's different."

Team Blake kicked things off with country artists Savannah Berry and Justin Rivers, who won out with a powerful performance of "The Climb."

Right or wrong, it's a done deal now. Blake also picked Danielle Bradbery, 16, over Taylor Beckham, 17, in the youngest face-off of the evening.

In his final pairing, Blake matched up Grace Askew against a country duo from his native Oklahoma, The Swon Brothers, who won out in the end.

That gives Blake an all-country roster for this year's live shows!

Usher paired Josiah Hawley and Jess Kellner in his first-ever knockout round, and while neither impressed, Usher "felt the grit" of Josiah's performance.

Later, indie rocker Michelle Chamuel faced off against former model Audrey Karrasch. Michelle's take on "Raise Your Glass" charmed the judge.

In another pairing, Usher matched R&B singers C Perkins and Vedo together. The latter's strong singing and vulnerability were more impressive.

In his final match-up, Usher paired Latin pop singer Cathia, a steal from Shakira, against soulful Ryan Innes, who turned all four chairs in his audition.

In a major surprise, Usher chose Cathia for her version of "Mr. Know It All," while the judges were slightly disappointed in Ryan's "I Don't Want to Be."
