Nigel Lythgoe Blames Lack of "Chemistry" for American Idol Judging Problems

by at . Comments

This just in: The American Idol Season 12 judging team didn't work out so well.

In an interview with Haute Living, producer Nigel Lythgoe owned up to this not-so-astonishing fact, blaming a lack of overall chemistry for the ratings disaster instead of singling out any individual panelist.

Season 12 Panelists

"Chemistry is something that everyone has to contribute to," Lythgoe said. "Each one of them is terrific on their own - they all bring something to the table - but they just don't gel as a whole."

Lythgoe praised Mariah Carey's "wealth of knowledge" and said Nicki Minaj was "very focused" throughout the season.

He also referred to Keith Urban was a "wonderful guy" and said "America loves" departing judge Randy Jackson.

Still, even if Fox is yet to make it official, changes are clearly on the way. Jackson is already out. Everyone else is expected to soon join him.

Will Idol be able to lure a huge name such as Justin Bieber as a judge? Who do YOU think should judge American Idol Season 13?

i think i good judge would be piers morgan

It really doesn't matter who judges. I watched IDOL since the very first season. It used to be about the talent and who America voted for, but the last couple of years have almost been a joke on America. The talent has certainly been there both years but the producers/judges have tried to force a certain winner and it's so obvious by the themes. There is just no way that they are going to try to keep the "Country" singers around. They just don't get it yet that their best publicity over the years has come from country artists --that SELL... The audition shows last too long and are mostly boring. I love all genres of music, and I used to love IDOL but I quit watching the week that Janelle was eliminated. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend. The best current thing IDOL has is Ryan. I will however, contine to watch The Voice, as I have from the beginning, and enjoy the great talent that I see there each and every week. It's so nice to see the coaches playful banter and the compliments that they pay each other, but especially all of the positive feedback that they give the contestants. Most of the music there is current and the show lets America decide when it's down to the finals. If they someday try to force a winner in I will see it and probably look for something else to watch.

American Idol Quotes

Brooke White's tears come from the authentic, good soul that she is. Her heart was breaking because she was overwhelmed with the experience she had with the show and the gift that it brought.

I read some of this online this morning and just for the record, the rumors — they’re not true. She’s part of our family and we love her.
