Mermaids: New Evidence Nets Record Ratings, Raises Viewer Questions

There's no way… is there?

A documentary that aired over the weekend on Discovery's Animal Planet has raised new questions over the existence of mermaids.

Aptly titled Mermaids: The New Evidence, the series examines the myth and the rumors surrounding these aquatic hominids. It is a follow-up to 2012's Mermaids: The Body Found.

The program netted record ratings for the network, despite The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stating that "no evidence" of these creatures has ever been found.

Still, the following video has apparently raised some questions for viewers:

Where do you stand? Do mermaids exist?

Although I am a Christian I believe that there could be other things our there that we've been only told stories about. That you always have wished that they were real, and for them to have evidence on it and they MIGHT actually be real flabbergast me. Honestly as a little girl I used to always wish I was a mermaid, and when we went swimming I would act like my legs were tails by keeping them in place and swim to the bottom of the pool. In fact, athe time my favorite movie was Aquamarine.

How did god and religion get into this comments, that doesnt have anything to do with mermaids

75% of Earth is made of water. There is no way any human can cover that much water. I believe there are lots of different animals in the ocean that we will never see. Who knows what all is in the ocean.

God is real.

There is this mammal out there called a "seal" and it fits the exact description of what you see in the video. BTW - Bigfoot does not exist, neither does ghosts and neither does Santa Claus or God. Sorry to break it to you guys but it's about time we stop living in fantasy land.

Ok, so tell me this then. Can you tell me what life in the oceans today exist in abyssal and hadal zones, and I mean all of it? Oh that's right you can, moron! Not just that, but tell me in the upper zones of the ocean what is every singe aquatic species? Can't tell me? Thought so, shut the hell up kid you can't prove your point just as much as believers in their existance. You can't prove God isn't real, you can't prove Ghosts aren't real, or that Bigfoot isn't real (In that Gigantopithecus blackii is a known ape specices that is said to be extinct, but we have definitive proof of their existance. And Lastly You are so unintelligent because there was a real man named based off the what we call today "Santa Claus" do your research and stop being a closed minded lemming. Its like saying the government doesn't have robotic mosquitos.

I don't care whether or not you believe that mermaids are real or not, but you should believe in God. Read the Bible. It doesn't affect me if you say, "You're really believe a 2000 year old book.". There's a such thing as faith. Would you rather live your life not believing and in the end God does exist and then you pay, or just having faith and God actually existing. Okay I'm done preaching!

Prove it doesn't!

Ok so um can you explain how our anchors ancestors have told stories and came in contact with mermaids and never had contact with each other . Honestly it's not a fairy tale they could exist. If intelligent animals(humans) exist why couldn't aquatic humans exist. Or is it a fact that the people like you can't coexist with other intelligent beings.

The same way dragons aren't real.

For starters a seal is to small to be what is in the film and their back flippers do not connect and second of all God is real don't you read the bible

You realize, of course, that both this and the previous mermaid show are mockumentrys, don't you? The producers have admitted/acknowledged it. To watch this and think that any of those videos are anything other than what they are--created and produced, intended to gain viewers--is just plain silly.

You're really using a 2000 year old book as your sole source of evidence for the existance of god? i mean seriously?

@Hellion also,
I had rather believe what I believe and it not be true, than to believe what you believe and it not be true. If I am wrong, I have lost nothing, but if you are wrong, you have lost everything! Read the Gospel of John.
