Attractive & Fat: Blogger Recreates Abercrombie Ads, Flaunts Size 22 Body

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries really kicked the proverbial hornet's nest.

By remarking, basically, that his clothing company caters only to "the cool kids" and he doesn't want any fat girls in his stores, he caused a major uproar.

Stars like Kirstie Alley and Ellen slammed A&F for sending such a message, and now a blogger named Jes (a.k.a. The Militant Baker) has upped the ante.

Attractive and Fat

Recreating popular topless Abercrombie ads (and wearing their clothes) in a series of photos, the Size-22 Jess says A&F should stand for "Attractive & Fat."

She published the images - which should make Jeffries cringe - on her blog, with an open letter to the company lamenting its stance on "larger people."

Jeffries told Business Insider that A&F is "exclusionary," and for "cool and popular kids ... a lot of people don't belong [in our clothes] and they can't belong."

Jes writes that she hopes one day all ads, even A&F's, will feature plus-size females or "unconventional models" with "not short, not fat, professional models."

H&M's swimsuit model in this summer's catalog qualifies, but somehow we don't see A&F following suit - even if, as Jes notes, their clothes do fit her.

Take a long look, Mike! Check out more of Jes' photos below:

Why isn't anyone throwing a fit over the stores that only sell to Plus sized women??

Avatar
@ Dee

Because the plus size stores were created so that women who are plus size can buy stuff too. Go to a mall and you have way more stores that sell just tiny clothes than just plus sizes.

Avatar
@ Dani

@Dee There are only two stores in the mall in my city that sell plus sized clothing and there are TONS of clothing stores there. People that wear average sized clothing honestly have no room to complain about the plus sized clothing stores because stores that don't cater to just bigger woman, Have the sizes that they wear. If not all, Nearly Every big name brand store sells sizes Extra Small to Large. Stop trying to act like it the same when it isn't. The clothes made today genrally cater to the smaller sizes.

@ Em

And I forgot to add that along side the stores that sell pluss size, They also sell average sizes too.

how about first off fat people do not wanna wear these clothes! in fact I wouldn't wanna wear clothing with words or letters on them in fact last time most people did it was called grrranimals and they were made for preschoolers the most people who are older who wear them are guys with chests too big and look ridiculous and women who can not deal with becoming older and are trying to hang onto their youth btw hanes t shirts have better quality then these cheap made in a foreign country clothing do they fall apart are thin and like I said who wants to wear a shirt that has words or a moose on it anyway funny their symbol is a moose!!! hmmmm

I'm wondering why the man isn't fat...?

Avatar
@ zita

Probably because A&F offers clothes for men with larger builds (Football players) but they don't offer the same for larger women.

I believe they we're going more for "even big women can get a sexy slender fellow" because as some of us know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

I'm all for supporting people of all sizes, race, creed, colour, sexual orientation etc. etc. but I don't like it when a point if being shoved in our faces. I think the philosophy of this ignorant company is sufficient to do in their business. Also, I saw a recent Upworthy video that showed a man buying up A & F clothes in thrift shops and giving them to the homeless. He made his point way better than this campaign. Clearly she does not look good in these clothes so she is just helping show that A&F may have a point. Boycotting this company or being creative like that man in the thrift shops is the classy way to go.

@Pam how does she not look good, she looks comfortable in herself to rock what ever she has on

@ Pam

You completely missed the two points of this particular campaign....

Oh, I get it I just don't agree with it. It's just my opinion. You don't have to agree with me. I'm ok with that

First, learn how to use spell check you fucking half illiterate moron. And second... Locate your nearest library and pick up a book on the entire alphabet, then we can go from there....because if this is all you've got to bring at this shallow debate of differing opinions, then you're way out of your league with me sweet pea! But hey God Bless ya though! ;-)

@ My Two Cents.....

Sounds like you and the AF CEO have a lot in common...

Avatar
@ Boo

We have nothing in common. Actually it's quite the opposite....I'm all for people of all races creeds, sexual preferences etc. to be treated fair and just. Unlike any of you two giant jackasses who took something as clever and beautiful as this ad and made it into something it wasn't. This woman was making two points, 1# big woman like herself as we'll as others like her can be put in those ads and be just as,sexy and, alluring. 2# she was showing how even a big woman like her, can land a super hot guy like the one you might normally see in those ads In the first place.jag-offs :-P

That was awesome, she is beautiful and the Ads we're done in a tasteful way. Kuddos! Keep em coming. It's about time to shake up the status quo.

Ems

I think all women who wear over a size 10 should shop ALL day at A&F; just don't buy anything. If the stores are packed with curvy women, it'll send them the message: "You can't stop me from shopping in your store."

Abercrombie needs to be boycotted by people of all size to protest their bias against people with weight problems.

@ Michelle

True but not all overweight people have weight issues. Some people are overweight and obese by nature like a pal of mine.
