Reddit is currently under a malicious DDoS attack, according to the site's official Twitter.
The attack seems to have started Friday, coinciding with the developing story of the Boston bombing suspect manhunt, which is very much still underway.
A source of the attack is unconfirmed, however, a Reddit admin says it was/is being performed by "someone with a lot of time and bandwidth on their hands."
From all known accounts, this is serious, large-scale attack.
Posting what seems to be a graph of Reddit's server load, the administrator tells Mashable that he hasn't seen an attack "at this scale" before.
The site is currently displaying a message confirming that "Site availability is being impacted by a malicious DDoS attack. Please stay tuned."
However, most of Reddit's functions seem to work fine, but that situation may very well be fluid depending on the source and potency of the attack.
A DDoS, or distributed denial of service attack, is an effort that targets one or more of the pertinent Domain Name System root nameserver clusters.
Basically, smart hackers trying to take down a website.
