A New York State high school sectional title game resulted in one of the craziest basketball game endings you'll ever see, if not the craziest.
Mt. Vernon H.S. led New Rochelle H.S. by two points with just 2.9 seconds remaining, with New Rochelle inbounding on the far end of the court.
A long pass up the court by Khalil Edney was intercepted by Mt. Vernon’s Jalen David, at which point the game should have been over. But it wasn't:
David tossed the ball up in the air, trying to kill off the remainder of the time without giving New Rochelle the chance to foul and take a final shot.
Yet the strategy backfired because time never ran out, and the ball eventually landed in Edney’s hands just behind midcourt with 0.1 seconds left.
Edney then drilled a desperation, 55-foot heave for the 61-60 win.
As if all that weren't insane enough, both teams began celebrating, leading to full-on chaos - Mt. Vernon believed Edney didn't get the shot off in time.
The refs eventually confirmed that he did, and here we are. Wow!
