Donald Trump is backing off his threats to sue the activist who started a petition urging Macy’s to fire him, claiming the efforts actually help his brands.

Trump threatened a lawsuit against Angelo Carusone for $25 million if he didn’t halt his “Dump Trump” campaign to convince Macy’s to axe the mogul.

The Donald alleged that Carusone was causing his reputation and business irreparable harm … yet was singing a different tune just one day later.

“Looks like a lawsuit against GoAngelo won’t work – my ties & shirts doing too well at Macy’s – he’s actually helping. I have no damages!” he tweeted.

“My ties & shirts at Macy’s are doing great. Stupid @GoAngelo is making people aware of how good they are!” Trump added, masking obvious backtracking.

He then lashed out at Carusone’s efforts thus far, which also included a Dump Trump campaign protest in front of Macy’s during the holiday season.

“Dummy @GoAngelo who had 11 people show up for 15 min. at his ‘massive’ rally at Macy’s is trying to get publicity for self by using me,” he said.

It probably didn’t help Trump’s cause that Angelo’s attorney sent a letter to Trump’s lawyer saying Carusone’s boycott efforts are protected by free speech.

If anyone knows about free speech, it’s Trump. He also noted that he has yet to see any specifics from The Donald over how he’s been hurt financially.

Carusone, who decided to go after Trump after being fed up with his Birther conspiracy theories during the 2012 presidential campaign, declared victory.

“Trump admits defeat. But alas, this is ‘still’ about @macys,” he commented.

Carusone then tweeted to @macys: “This is how your spokesperson speaks to customers #dumpTrump RT @realDonaldTrump: Dummy @GoAngelo.”

He added: “I told ya. Bullies always back down once you stand up to them. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Much more work to do though. Onward!”

Carusone plans to deliver his Dump Trump petition to Macy’s once it hits 700,000 signatures. It’s currently at a whopping 683,000, so it won’t be long.
