Cal Coach Shoves Player, Apologizes for "Inappropriate Behavior"

by at . Comments

University of California Coach Mike Montgomery has apologized for going all Bob Knight on a player.

Early in the second half of last night's game against USC, Montgomery called timeout and then shoved star guard Allen Crabbe in the chest. Watch the incident take place here:

An all-conference performer last season, Crabbe was clearly disturbed but he act, exiting to the team locker room before returning and scoring 10 points in the final 10 minutes as Cal ended up prevailing 76-68.

“It was coach’s way of motivating me," Crabbe said after the game. "Everything’s fine. It’s under the bridge. No hard feelings.”

But there clearly will be a fine and likely a suspension from the Pac 10, as Montgomery acknowledged that he crossed a line.

“I have great passion for this game and tonight, I let my emotions get away from me in the heat of the moment," the coach said in a statement following the victory. "While my intent was to motivate our student-athletes, my behavior was inappropriate and I apologize for my actions.”
