Largely blamed for Ann Curry's firing, Matt Lauer is reportedly trying to make it up to his former Today Show co-anchor.
According to Radar Online sources, the reporter is pushing NBC to grant Curry's wish and allow her to leave for CNN, where she's been offered a primetime hosting gig.
“Matt thinks that NBC should let Ann out of her contract so that she can take the CNN gig,” an insider tells Radar. “He can’t imagine why the bosses are dragging their feet and are at a stalemate.
"It would allow Ann to get back on the air on a regular basis and everyone can move on from the debacle. Matt only wishes Ann the best and thinks it’s for the best if she were to take a job at another network.”
It's been over two weeks since Curry told NBC she wants to work for the cable network, but she is yet to hear a response.
New CNN President Jeff Zucker allegedly wants her to replace Anderson Cooper at 8 p.m. on weeknights on that struggling network.
Curry, of course, was let go from Today over the summer, in the most unceremonious way possible.
Ratings for the morning program have continued to spiral downward ever since, with talk of a Matt Lauer firing making the rounds. Might this new, amicable gesture be his attempt to stave off bad press?
