American Idol in Baton Rouge: Best of the Bayou

by at . Comments

American Idol took its act to Louisiana last night, and all four judges actually remained in their seats!

Yes, one day after Nicki Minaj stormed off the set and the show seemed more focused on panelist drama and than contestant talent, all remained mostly calm in Baton Rouge.

As for the hopefuls who made the most impressive impression?

Burnell Taylor is a Katrina survivor who was uprooted by that storm and who inherited his musical ability from his grandfather; while Charlie Askew has a social disorder that has NO affect on his vocal chords.

Watch both auditions here:

Elsewhere, Megan Miller offered up the sight of a pageant queen on crutches belting out "Something’s Got a Hold on Me."

And Dustin Watts covered Garth Brooks in his quest to become the first firefighting American Idol champion. Which of these is your favorite?

The woman who moved me the most with her singing is Maddie Assel. She wore a floral print blouse and listed the inimitable Haley Reinhart as one of her mentors. Listening to Haley is the next closest thing to heaven.

I thought it was a great night in Baton Rouge and I enjoyed the talent on American Idol. I’m glad I got hooked on this show last season when my coworker at DISH mentioned it. It was another great episode to watch along with some other great shows on primetime. I always look forward to getting my primetime shows recorded to watch later when I’m not at work. One thing I’ve always hated is when there are too many shows to record and not enough DVRs to do it with. This pain’s a thing of the past now that I upgraded to the DISH Hopper DVR, and enable the PrimeTime Anytime and all four major networks will record on one TV. I can say good bye to the headaches and everyone gets what they want to watch. We can also play the recordings back at any TV location which makes things easier with just one box for everyone.
