Pope on Gay Marriage: A Threat to Humanity, Peace and Justice!

Pope Benedict XVI can expect some pissed off Tweets this week.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church said this week that gay marriage poses a threat to "justice and peace." He also called same-sex marriage "unnatural."

The 85-year-old Pontiff kicked off the Christmas season on Friday afternoon with the traditional lighting of the tree in Vatican City's St. Peter's Square.

There, he released the Pope's message for World Day of Peace 2013. In his annual address, he that same-sex marriage is "against human nature."

According to reports, he said the following:

"There is… a need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of union."

"Such attempts actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society."

"These principles are not truths of faith, nor are they simply a corollary of the right to religious freedom. They are inscribed in human nature itself, accessible to reason and thus common to all humanity."

The Pope went on to suggest that support of gay marriage "constitutes an offense against the truth of the human person, with serious harm to justice and peace."

Pope Benedict XVI said abortion is also a threat to peace.

This is not the first time that Pope Benedict has vocally opposed same-sex marriage, having derided the idea as "insidious and dangerous" earlier this year.

Previously, he had called same-sex unions "a threat to humanity."

Do you support the right of gay couples to marry?

Satan's greatest trick is in convincing the world he doesn't exist

The office of the Pope has been notorious for the worlds worst debauchery and evil (inquisition and torture of heretics to name only two) and he stands up there as if his position gives him an ounce of credibility. Oh Please!

@ justme

justme, the Pope is just right and you're wrong to try holding him prisoner of the past mistakes of his office. The some Popes before him got it wrong, he's gotten it right

Padre, leave those kids alone!

I wish Jesus would throw a molatave cocktail on the pope's christmas tree, watch it burn to the ground. . .then laugh out loud.

@ Dick Hunter

I wish you would read the bible! Homosexuality is a sin! Not laughing out loud!

You'd think he'd be all for it considering he's surrounded by a harem of gay men at the Vatican.

Patty...your comment made me laugh...LOL!!!!!

Anyone with any real interest in the dictates of the Bible as interpreted by the Catholic Church would know that the same church is also totally responsible for the content of the Bible. These dictates vary from year to year but the current opinion dispenser is saying nothing more than "We originally said this is the way it is", and therefore "that's the way it is''! There is a long history of people in this world who said "It's so because I said so!" ...and went on to almost disappear from history. Looks like history will continue to repeat itself. I have a great deal of respect for the pontiff, but his opinion is no mor valid than mine.

Papa Benny didn't limit loving people. He spoke honestly about the unnaturalness of engaging in sexual behavior with someone of the same gender. And he is absolutely right! Whether or not you like it, whether you or not want to keep sinning in this way, whether or not there are poor marriages..... truth is truth. BTW, look up the meaning of justice and you will see he was right on that account as well. Justice is giving someone what is due to them. Marriage is not a right given to all people in all forms of unions.... it is a divine gift between one man and one woman for the purpose of procreation.

It's sad how people with such attitude still exist in this world and is worshiped by some. Logically speaking there is nothing unnatural about someone loving someone who happened to be the same sex. Even just looking at the animal kingdom it's only humans doing "eww it's unnatural". The only difference between hetrosexual relationship and homosexual relationship is the fact homosexual couples cannot have a baby but this age of time with overpopulation, adoption etc. that is not a problem at all. Their feelings for each other should just be as strong (perhaps even stronger since they are pretty much doing something that is against the "natural flow of society") as heterosexual couples. I really don't see what's wrong with them getting married. As long as they love each other they should be allowed to get married.
The nature of marriage is Love. Not Female and Male. Plus heck, it's not like the heterosexual couples show a great example of a great marriage that this Pope talks so mighty about *cough*KimKardashian*cough*
How come he doesn't complain about her marrying?

Yeah, cheating, television shows with a grand prize of winning a spouse, quickie marriages, quickie annulments, quickie divorces, and all the like ruin the institution of marriage. But you know what else is "unnatural"? -Electing a man as a gateway to God and worshipping him like he is God. That is unnatural.
