Morgan Freeman's statement about these random shootings....

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you kn
ow the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."

A mournful event. My prayers go out to the families that lost their loved ones.

On a side note, these types of events are no longer breathtaking for the country, shootings are becoming too common now. Something should and HAS to be done about this.

    GUTS by killing children???

Like I said this is a parenting problem this kid had mental health issues. His mother bought the guns, but obviously did not have them locked up. What kind of stupid parent has unsecured guns in a home with a child with mental health issues. ??

The media should have checked their facts and had 100% confirmation they were identifying the right guy before splashing his (Ryan's) picture all over the television & radio as the shooter. Poor guy has lst his Mother, maybe Father, and his brother and has to deal with media and strangers coming after him as the shooter!? I feel beyond horrible for those who lost their lives, but I also feel bad for the shooter's brother who will be living this down the rest of his life.

Don't say that his body should be burned sorry. Don't get angry but I think we should forgive him like when Jesus did ( I don't know what religion you are but I'm Roman Catholic ) when everyone tortured him but still Even though I do hope he goes to he'll and he answers gods questions

This is a developing pattern of young men with severe emotional or psychological problems whose parents have not taken the responsibility they have to do something before it's too late. If your child is whack you need to take action. In most of these cases we hear later that the parents were worried or they felt there was something wrong, or they were not paying attention. This is a parenting issue.

He was 20 years old, if he had thoughts of killing his mom and innocent children then HE should have gotten the help he needed. He was an adult and responsible for his OWN actions.

    @ Cora

Right, a person with mental illness, let alone a 20 yr old is going to do the responsible thing and seek help for him or herself. If you had someone in your home who had mental health issues, would you have a couple of guns lying around, relying on the sense of responsibility of the one with issues? Yes the boy is the one doing the shooting but the mothers judgement was seriously lacking and this was obviously passed on to her son. Hence poor parenting played a huge role in this tragedy.

He was mentally challenged! His parents should have killed him a long time ago! They knew something like this was possible, they were just too blinded and now people are suffering because of them!

    @ Dutchman

The guns are NOT the problems. Drugs are illegal and people still get them. That will be the same with guns if they are outlawed. It goes back to parenting and raising your children correctly.

i cant beleave any one would want to harm innocent children no matter how angry they are at whoever thats no reason to take innocent lives i dont care what happned between him and his mom he should have not gone to her work and taken it out on others this mans sick and needed help but its too too late now
