Trace Adkins Defends, Explains Confederate Flag Symbol

by at . Comments

Under a bit of fire for dinning a Confederate Flag earpiece during a nationally televised Christmas special this week, country star Trace Adkins has issued a statement.

Entertaining troops as part of a Japan-based USO tour, Adkins posted the following on his website yesterday:

"As a proud American I object to oppression of any kind. To me, the battle flag represents remembrance of my Southern lineage – I am a descendant of Confederate soldiers who followed that flag into battle.

"To those who view the flag as a symbol of racism, that was not my message and I did not intend offense."

Seems pretty reasonable and simple, no? What do you think of Adkins wearing that earpiece?

Why is it ok to wear a Malcom X shirt or a Obama shirt or a Martin Luther king shirt but not a confedrate shirt or any piece of its symbol. Nothing wrong with wearing the flag. If your offended tough get over it and maybe get past all the racism. We have rights to and should be able to wear it with pride

Ron M... This is what people like you don't understand or just rather ignore. Obama and Martin Luther King are people. Martin Luther King never spoke of black people being superior to whites, he wanted equality between races. And people need to stop with acting like Obama is only black people's president.. he is ALL of our president. You're complaining about Obama, Martin Luther King, and Malcom it seems like you are the one who need to get past all the racism to me. What does the Confederate Flag stand for? Your argument is not valid at all.

@ Ron M

I'm a Southerner ... And while some may agree with your reasoning, your argument is weakened by your multiple misspellings and punctuation errors. I'm sure that you don't intend it, but such easily checked and corrected mistakes make you seem lazy in both writing and thought.

@ Frank L

Hey,Southerners I bet most of you'll don't know your own Confederate history concerning the truth about it.They lied to you all at the expense and misery of black people that you were told are happy and better off in that condition also the ignorant poor whites that fought for the South illegal causes.
