No Doubt Removes Music Video, Apologizes for Offensive Content

by at . Comments

No Doubt has left no doubt: it is very sorry if anyone was offended by its music video for "Looking Hot."

The video has come under fire because it features Gwen Stefani in Native American attire, tied up, handcuffed, dancing around teepees, and fighting cowboys.

In response to the controversy, the group has pulled the video from YouTube and issued the following apology:

As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history.

Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness.

We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.

Think this was the proper move?

Ahhh come on now Gwen- your part of the "Open minded" generation. You made that video and you knew god damned well what you were doing. Your just as racist as obama or the rest of his followers! Apologies are like assholes- everybody has one and that same apology is nothing but a card you play once you get called out! You are like Obama- your a phony ass bullshitter.

I think that sometimes it can be offensive but what can you do when people grow up with an unrealistic view on Native Americas and on what is appropriate or not appropriate. Plains native Americans are the only ones who lived in tipi's because we traveled the plains for food, hunting purposes, and shelter in our regions. Other native Americans had their own shelters and ways of life and culture, just because we are all Native American does not mean we all live the same life and culture. I think that was very awesome of them to appologize a lot of other people would not be so appologetic.

Removing this will almost guarantee big sales which I believe not the reason removing the video. Seems almost impossible these days to not "insult" some group or another. Wonder how Depps Tonto with the dead bird on his head will be received. I grew up playing cowboy and Indians. Times have changed.

Sorry! I don't forgive you. Why did you do this in the first place? You obviously don't like indians.
(not that there's anything wrong with that). When you are in the public eye you should keep your prejudices to yourself.
