The latest trailer for American Idol Season 12 serves as both a science lesson and piece of trash talk.

It opens by stating there are 7 billion people in the world... yet there's only one Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson, and Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

It then closes with Ryan Seacrest reminding viewers that Idol "started it all," a clear reference to new competitors The Voice and The X Factor.
