Rupert Everett Creates Stir with Anti-Gay Parenting Comment

by at . Comments

Rupert Everett has stirred up quite a bit of controversy with comments made to The Sunday Times Magazine in Great Britain.

The actor, who came out of the closet at age 18, told the publication that his mother has met his boyfriend and gets along with him very well - but would prefer if her child came home instead with a wife and kids.

“She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her,” Everett said. “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion."

Expecting backlash, Everett added:

"I'm not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don't feel like I'm part of any 'community.' The only community I belong to is humanity and we've got too many children on the planet, so it's good not to have more."

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall (a British gay rights group) reacted swiftly to Everett's comments, releasing a statement that reads:

"Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop."

What do you think of Rupert Everett's anti-gay parenting stance? It is...

Rupert seems to me a lost soul. Its fairly obvious that even after all these years he's not really come to terms with who he is as a person or his own self worth. Maybe that's why he feels the way that he does. I feel that there are PLENTY of well rounded children being brought up wonderfully by gays and lesbians. Hell, some of them have more love and support than some heterosexual families I know...that including my own! Its clear that Mr. Everett is way off base on this and for a gay man he should know better.

I know single parents that have raised successful well adjusted children too. It can be done. There is evidence however that the biggest influence in a growing child's life is their same sex parent. That to me is common sense. Yes gay parents can successfully raise children but assuming each household is a healthy one, having a mother and father is, imo, the ideal situation.

He DID say this was his OPINION. And he is entitled to it just like everyone else. Stop quoting scientific research to try to change a guy's opinion. You are both "right". There, feel better?

The evil writings in Leviticus 18:22 … against gays – depict: “P … “priestly rules & expanded by the pope; homophobes and religious frauds … to attack the gay community and never meant to apply to the public -- but to priests. Leviticus was written long after Moses -- 600BC. The pope and churches fully aware that Leviticus 18:22 applies to priests only … refuse to remove this stigma … maliciously persecuting gays. Kids are being bullied into suicide …!

He is allowed an independent thought! Being gay isnt a CULT, nor is being straight!
