Julian Castro DNC Speech: San Antonio Mayor Defends Obama, Casts Romney as Candidate of "No"

by at .

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro was plucked from relative obscurity to give the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention Tuesday night.

The 37-year-old quickly showed America why.

Earning rapturous applause, the party's first-ever Hispanic keynote speaker called the American dream "not a sprint, or even a marathon, but a relay."

"Our families don't always cross the finish line in the span of one generation ... but each generation passes on to the next the fruits of their labor."

For nearly 20 minutes Julian Castro made the case for President Barack Obama's reelection while arguing time and again that Mitt Romney "doesn't get it."

Castro praised Obama's support for Pell grants, the DREAM Act and more broadly, the belief that opportunity today is the prosperity of tomorrow.

Obama, he said, "understands that when we invest in people we're investing in shared prosperity, and when we neglect that responsibility, we risk our promise as a nation."

Romney, meanwhile, he painted as an out-of-touch "son of privilege."

"Some people are lucky enough to borrow money from their parents, but that shouldn't determine whether you can pursue your dreams," continued Castro.

"Not here, not in the 21st century. I don't think Governor Romney [means] any harm. I think he's a good guy. He just has no idea how good he's had it."

So true! Reality is never more sobering than watching this conventions crowd! All I can think is -THIS IS WHERE MY TAXES GO! The more things change- the more they stay the same. Tonight- they are passing out buttons at the Convention that read OBAMA 2012.... Above that it reads - ONCE YOU GO BLACK YOU NEVER GO BACK! Yes- post Racism at its best! Democratic Chairman Mark Allen Siegel was interviewed today and said- " I am not a fan of any religion but Jewish". He said - " The worst possible allies for the Jewish State are the Fundalmentalist Christians who want Jews dead so they can bring back the 2nd coming of Christ". Like I said- a Democratic Chairman. All you need to be inducted into this insane group is to hate one of the following. RICH,WHITE, OR CHRISTIAN!

Great, another one that thinks he's the only one that had it tough growing up in this country. No white people ever had any problems in their eyes. I'm so sick of these minorities claiming their bullshit. And I am actually a "designated minority" but refuse to use that word to describe myself. The difference is that NOW there are entitlements. If there were no entitlements then the working person's expenses would go down....self creating the middle class that once was.

Last night this Castro said something along the lines of - Romney doesn't know what it is to work for anything but he will. Romney has had it always given to him. Another Castro - Fidel- had that same mindset when he introduced socialism to Cuba.
