Carly Rae Jepsen Covers Joni Mitchell

by at . Comments

Carly Rae Jepsen does not want to be a one-hit wonder.

Even when that one hit is the biggest smash to hit the music charts in years.

So with a new album about to go on sale, the 26-year old Canadian is working hard to showcase her versatility for the world. Hence her appearance last week with Ryan Seacrest and hence her version during that radio interview of the 1968 Joni Mitchell track "Both Sides, Now."

Give it a look and a listen now:

Jepsen also teams up with Justin Bieber for the song "Beautiful." It will be included on her September 18 release.

Actually, this song was done months ago (not this week)during an absurd hectic schedule of 25 States in 31 nights and around 35 performances. I've seen her do this live in concert and while it's true, Joni is a legend, Carly is building her 'legendary' status too and can perform this song with heart and passion. As for living doing 'covers', uhhh...she is releasing a new EP of orginals. By the way, Tug Of War is an awesome album. This girl has nothing but talent!

If she has already run out of material and has resorted to covers then she won't last but another two years. Or she can just go on tour with Kelly Clarkson and only do covers. Enjoy it while you can!

This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and while Carly has a pretty voice and sang the song well, it lacks the emotion to make it as beautiful as Joni's version. Joni was raw and you could feel her pain. Carly seems like she is just singing the words. It obviously could've been a lot worse, but I'll take Joni's version any day.
